Mastercard Names Richard Wormald as President for Asia Pacific

Mastercard has appointed Richard Wormald as its new President for the Asia Pacific region, marking a significant leadership transition for one of the world’s largest payments companies.

In this role, Wormald will oversee Mastercard’s strategy across Asia Pacific, a region that continues to see rapid growth in digital payments, financial inclusion, and cross-border commerce. His appointment reflects Mastercard’s focus on strengthening partnerships, expanding innovation, and working closely with governments, regulators, financial institutions, and merchants across diverse markets.

Wormald brings more than 20 years of experience across financial services, payments, and consulting. Most recently, he served as Division President for Australasia at Mastercard, where he played a key role in advancing the company’s regional growth and customer relationships.

Before joining Mastercard, Wormald held senior leadership roles at Wesfarmers, where he led the development of Coles Financial Services. Earlier in his career, he worked in strategy and consulting roles at Accenture and gained broad international experience with Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Ford Motor Company across the UK, Europe, and Asia.

His academic and professional background adds depth to his leadership profile. Wormald holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton and is a Chartered Accountant, combining technical thinking with strong financial and strategic insight.

As President for Asia Pacific, Wormald will be responsible for shaping and executing Mastercard’s regional agenda, with a focus on sustainable growth, trusted partnerships, and continued investment in technology and innovation.

The appointment follows a planned leadership transition. Ari Sarker, who has served as President for Asia Pacific for more than a decade, will step down from the role and move into an advisory position. In this capacity, Sarker will continue to support Mastercard through mentorship and regional continuity.

This leadership change signals both continuity and renewal as Mastercard looks ahead to the next phase of growth in one of its most dynamic regions.
